Day 12 - Ages to Burgos

Hope everyone is keeping well,

If it wasn't for the blog I think I would have lost track of the days by now! We were on the road around 6.30 this morning leaving Ages behind us. It was quiet misty and dull all morning with the sun tucked away behind the clouds. The weather today didn't get above 14c it really felt like I was walking at home!

We passed through Atapuerca, Alto Cruceiro and Cardenuela then stopping for breakfast in Orbaneja. We were in Alto Cruciero at 8.30 surrounded by the clouds which was amazing! The town is at 1080m. Each of the towns were lovely, a mix of gothic and renaissance style as we passed through them. Atapuerca is now one of the most important archaeological sites in the world since the discovery of 800,000 year old human remains a number of years back.

On coming into Burgos we followed a farm track which ran alongside Burgos Airport, then made our way through wheat fields and then we took the road into Castañares, a quiet suburb of the City of Burgos. Arriving then in Burgos around 12.30. Today wasn't the worst day but the last few kilometers were tough going! We covered 26km in 6hrs..

We decided that we could do with a decent shower and good nights sleep so the 3 of us are sharing a room in one of the hotels in Burgos. The Cathedral which we look out onto is amazing! The chances of finding an Irish Pub for this game are very slim but we have found an internet café so will have to watch the game online. Will have to explain the rules to the lads and maybe a few locals.

At the minute it doesn't look like we will be covering much ground as one of the lads has a bad case of shin splint but hopefully we'll get around 15km done.

Talk to you all soon,

Ger
